I started this blog as a professional website for myself, back when I thought I would become a school librarian. Now that grad school is behind me, I know myself better. Back then I was really excited about helping elementary students learn, even without any teaching experience. I thought I wanted to share my love of learning, so I substitute taught in school libraries in 2013 and 2014. However, I learned that teaching is not my strong suit. I liked working with elementary students, and they liked me. I found, though, that I enjoy more behind-the-scenes library work. I finally decided not to pursue school librarianship.
I’m now looking for a position as a library assistant in a public library, while I volunteer in public libraries. Right now I’m in a Friends of the Library bookstore at one of my local library branches, as well as the circulation department. I’m looking forward to finding the right place for me in the library world, as I still love learning new things through books! I still like reading children’s and young adult books, so I might continue to review them here. I’ll add some adult nonfiction book reviews. I notice I’m drawn more to adult nonfiction now I’ve moved away a bit from reading so many children’s books and YA books. As I like science fiction and fantasy, I might morph into a blog like Charlotte’s Library or Views from the Tesseract, with the occasional nonfiction book. That would continue the theme of “curiosities” in my blog title. On the other hand, I already dedicated my Tumblr to the science fiction and fantasy books I read. So I might broaden this blog to a book review blog of several genres I like: children’s and YA fiction and nonfiction, some adult nonfiction, classic novels, mysteries and thrillers, historical romance. I’m not sure yet how to tie those into a cohesive blog. Stay tuned!
